PARIS -- On Monday, plenty more medals will be handed out in the 2024 Paris Olympics, including more crucial matchups in water polo and beach volleyball.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL QUARTERFINALS

Slovenia vs. Poland (3 a.m., Peacock)

In their first-ever Olympic appearance, Slovenia has certainly turned some heads, advancing to the quarterfinals. They were very impressive in the opening round, winning Pool A by finishing 3-0. They take on a Poland team that ended up second in Pool B, only losing to Italy. A win on Monday would send the Polish team to the semifinals for the first time in 44 years.

Italy vs. Japan (7 a.m., USA Network, FuboTV, Peacock)

Speaking of Italy, the team has had quite the bounce-back performance after finishing sixth in Tokyo. The Italians had made it to the semifinals in the six Olympics prior. They face off with a Japanese team that only qualified for the Olympics for the third time since 1992. They snuck into the quarterfinals despite going 1-2 in pool play, ending up third in Pool C.

France vs. Germany (11 a.m., NBC, NBC Universo, FuboTV, Peacock)

The hosts France might not have been perfect in the group stage, but their 2-1 record was good enough for second in Pool A, sending the reigning gold medalists to the quarterfinals for just the third time in its history. They face off with Germany who is only in the quarterfinals for the second time since the unification of East and West Germany. They ended up second Pool C with a 2-1 record.

United States vs. Brazil (3 p.m., Peacock)

It has been quite the turnaround for the Americans. After finishing 10th in Tokyo three years ago, the Americans took down some tough competition to win Pool C. The U.S. is looking to advance to the semifinals for the fourth time in the last six Olympics. It will be tough against Brazil, who has made it as far as the final four in each of the last five Summer Games. Yet, this year’s team was only good enough to finish their in Pool B.

TRACK AND FIELD

SESSION #8 (4 a.m., USA Network)

SESSION #9 (1 p.m., NBC)

One of the premier races coming up on Monday is that in the women’s 800-meter race. Defending gold medalist, Athing Mu of the United States, is not in the race this year, opening the door for reigning world champion Mary Moraa of Kenya to challenge for the gold medal. Great Britain’s Keely Hodgkinson has ran the fastest time of the year so far, making her an outside contender at gold.

The 5000-meter race is also expected to see some drama. Reigning gold medalist Sifan Hassan is going to be a contender, despite not having the fastest times so far this year. Kenyans Beatrice Chebet and Faith Kipyegon have been very successful in the event over the last couple of years.

Men’s Parallel Bars Final (5:45 a.m.), Women’s Balance Beam Final (6:36 a.m.), Men’s High Bar Final (7:30 a.m.), Women’s Floor Exercise Final (8:20 a.m.)

It looks like it will be another battle between Simone Biles and Rebeca Andrade on Monday. The individuals who finished first and second in the all-around competition are expected to compete in the balance beam and floor exercise finals. Biles has won triple gold already in Paris, winning the gold in the team even with the U.S., and finishing first in the all-around and vault events. Andrade ended up second in the latter of the two.

China’s Zhang Boheng is also going to be having a busy day of competition on Monday. After taking home silver in the team and all-around events, he is projected to to do well in the parallel bars and high bar competitions.

MEN’S SOCCER SEMIFINALS

Morocco vs. Spain

Morocco is having its best run in the Olympics ever. After surprisingly winning Group B, the team took care of business, beating up the United States in the quarterfinals, 4-0, on Friday. They are trying to become the first African nation to advance to the gold medal match since Nigeria lost to Argentina in 2008.

Spain is trying to make it back to the final after coming up short three years ago. This year’s Spanish team has played the typical calculated, sometimes passive attack we have seen in the past. Yet, despite finishing second in Group C, they burst out to a 3-0 win over Japan in the quarterfinals.

France vs. Egypt

The host nation continues to make the home fans happy. After going 3-0 in the opening round to win Group A, France took down the strong Argentinian squad in the quarterfinals, squeaking out a 1-0 victory, to secure a spot in the semifinals for the fifth time.

Egypt is having a little Cinderella run in the tournament. Even though they advanced to the quarterfinals for the third time in the last four Olympics, the African country has not made it to the semifinals in the Under-23 area. This is the first time since 1964 that Egypt has advanced to the final four, but they have never played in a gold medal match.

MEN’S WATER POLO

Croatia vs. United States

The United States is gearing up for the quarterfinals, as they punched their ticket to the knockout stage with their win over Montenegro on Saturday. It marks the 10th time in the last 11 Olympics that the Americans have made it as far as the quarterfinals. With a 2-2 record, they are currently fourth in Group A, with a win, and a Greece regulation loss to Italy, would push the United States to third in the group.

However, Croatia has something to play for, too. After beating Greece on Saturday, they are 3-1 and are second in the group, two points back of Italy. They are hoping Greece gets a win on Monday, as a win over the U.S. would give them the top spot in Group A.
